Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are lay persons who are approved by the Bishop for a three year term and should be in good standing with regard to the teachings of the church.
Referred to sometimes as Eucharistic Ministers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve by assisting the Priest and Deacon in bringing communion to parishioners who reside in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or in their own homes and unable to get to church. They also may assist the Priest and Deacon in the distributing the Eucharist at Masses.
