SAINT JOSEPH EDUCATIONAL FUND GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION 2009/2010

DEFINITION:  The Saint Joseph Educational Fund is a fund designed to provide tuition assistance to children of Parish members as they pursue their educational interests.  This year, it is our intention to provide four awards.  The awards will be given to students pursuing a Catholic education in elementary school ($500), middle school ($500) and high school ($1,000), and to students pursuing a college degree ($1,000).  Further, it is our intention that the awards be an annual event, dependent on the availability of funds.

Scholarships are not awarded to the same person in consecutive years, making last year’s winners ineligible this year.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate success in the following areas:

Academic achievement – the candidate, or his/her guardians, will be asked to provide evidence of high quality schoolwork.  In some instances transcripts or other supporting documentation will be required.  In all cases the candidate will be asked to prepare a short essay supporting their application.

Parish involvement – Scholarships are available to the children of all Parish members.  In keeping with the longstanding tradition of involvement and volunteerism present in Saint Joseph Church, every effort will be made to afford special consideration to children of Parish families who have contributed to the growth and health of our parish.

Community involvement – Since Saint Joseph Church is part of a larger group of communities, when appropriate, consideration will be given to the applicant’s involvement in their local community. 

  FILING PROCESS

The filing deadline for 2009 is May 31st.  The attached application and any supporting documents will be required by that date.  Scholarships will be announced in the Parish bulletin during June.
